Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does this process take 15–23 weeks?
A: We aren’t just giving your site a new look. We are performing a deep structural audit, ensuring total accessibility compliance, and building a strategic foundation that will last for years. Quality takes time, and we want to get it right the first time so you don’t have to fix it later.
Q: Can we skip the Discovery phase if we already know what we want?
A: Think of Discovery like a health check-up. Even if you feel fine, we need to look at the data (analytics and accessibility) to ensure we aren’t building on top of old ROT (Redundant, Outdated, or Trivial) content. This phase actually saves us time in the Build phase!
Q: Who is responsible for writing the new content?
A: Your Unit owns the subject matter expertise. You’ll write the content using our Web Content Template, and the CMD team will act as your editors and strategists to ensure it’s optimized for the web.
Q: What happens if I want a feature or component that isn’t in the Design System?
A: Our Design System is built to be flexible! If you have a unique need, we have a New Component Request SOP. We’ll evaluate the request to see if it benefits the whole Student Life community or if there’s an existing component that can solve your problem.
Q: Will I be able to edit my own site after it launches?
A: Absolutely. Once a member of your team completes the WordPress Training, they’ll be given the keys to the WordPress dashboard to manage day-to-day updates.
Q: What is a Sandbox and why can’t the public see it?
A: The Sandbox is our private construction zone. It allows us to test new ideas and let you review the site safely without confusing your users or showing broken pages in search results.
