Phase 4: Design & Content

To bring the look and feel of your site to life while finalizing the actual words that will live on each page. We match the structural blueprint from the previous phase with our modern design system and your Unit’s unique voice.

By the end of this phase, you’ll see exactly how your information will be presented to users. Completing your content now ensures that the Build phase is smooth and that we aren’t chasing down missing paragraphs at the last minute.

You’ll prioritize what needs to be written first. We’ll go through rounds of reviews (typically one round, but two if needed) to ensure the tone is right and the information is accurate.

You’ll learn how to set up content documents and how to format components within those documents.

Since many of the components require photography, you’ll select photos that complement the copy. You can log these selections, along with their corresponding alt text, directly within the master content document.

The Web Team ensures your site looks like a proud member of the Student Life family and that we have everything we need to proceed through launching your site. If there is a need for a new component or functionality, it will be requested in this phase.

For complex pages, we’ll show you black-and-white sketches (wireframes) to confirm the layout before we add the final design.

We’ll review everything from color contrast to Alt Text for images to make sure every user can navigate your site.

We provide a Web Content Template to make writing easier. It ensures you have the necessary Frontmatter (like Search Engine titles) and headings ready for us to build.

Users scan—they don’t read. Use the Web Component Cheat Sheet to see how things like Cards or Accordions can break up long walls of text into digestible pieces.

We aim for 98% content complete before moving to the build. This means the text is finalized, approved, and ready for the web.

Typically 3–5 weeks. This timeline depends heavily on your team’s capacity to draft and approve content.
